बत्तख और सुनहरे अंडे (The Goose And The Golden Eggs ) एक जादुई बत्तख की कहानी है जो बच्चों को बहुत पसंद आती है और उन्हें अच्छी शिक्षा भी देती है।
एक बार की बात है, घनश्याम नाम का एक गरीब किसान रहता था। एक दिन, जब वह अपने खेत की देखभाल कर रहा था, तो उसे ऊँची घास में एक सोने की बत्तख मिली। उसे देखकर वह आश्चर्य चकित रह गया वो बतख बहुत सूंदर थी गरीब किसान उस बतख को घर ले आया और उसे देखकर सब लोग बहुत अचंभित हो गए और खुश भी हुए।
किसान और उसकी पत्नी ने जब सुबह उठकर बतख को देखा तो और जयादा अचंभित हो गए क्यूंकि बतख ने अगले दिन एक सुनहरा सोने का अंडा दिया जिसे देख कर उनकी ख़ुशी का ठिकाना नहीं रहा।
अब किसान और उसकी पत्नी बहुत खुश थे क्युकी वो सुनहरी बतख उन्हें हर दिन एक सोने का अंडा देती थी और वो बेसब्री से उसका इन्तजार करते थे।
उनके धैर्य का फल मिला क्योंकि बत्तख हर दिन एक सोने का अंडा देने लगी। खुशी और नई संपत्ति से अभिभूत, घनश्याम और उसकी पत्नी ने इन कीमती अंडों को बेच दिया और जल्द ही वो दोनों अमीर बन गए और अपने गाँव की ईर्ष्या का कारण भी बन गए।
एक दिन पत्नी ने लालच में आकर किसान से कहा के यह बतख रोज सोने का अंडा देती है क्यों न हम इसके पेट में से सारे अंडे एक साथ बहार निकाल लें। इस पर किसान ने उसको मना कर दिया पर पत्नी इस बात की जिद्द करने लगती है तो किसान ना चाहते हुए भी पत्नी की बात मान लेता है।
फिर पत्नी की बात मानते हुए उसने एक दिन दुखी मन से बत्तख का पेट काट दिया लकिन वो दोनों बहुत निराश हुए क्युकि बतख के पेट में उन्हें एक भी सोने का अंडा नहीं मिला और बतख भी मर गयी
किसानअपने दुर्भाग्य पर बहुत दुखी हुआ। किसान और उसकी पत्नी महसूस करते हैं कि उनके स्वार्थ की कीमत उन्हें चुकानी पड़ी, घनश्याम और उसकी पत्नी अपनी इस गलती पर शर्मिंदा होते हैं।
तब से, उन्होंने जो थोड़ा सा बचा था उसे संजोया और कसम खाई कि वे फिर कभी लालच को अपने निर्णय पर हावी नहीं होने देंगे।

The Goose and the Golden Eggs is a story of a magical duck which is very much liked by children and also gives them good education.
Once upon a time, there lived a poor farmer named Ghanshyam. One day, while he was tending his farm, he found a golden goose in the tall grass. He was surprised to see that the duck was very beautiful.
The poor farmer brought that duck home and everyone was surprised and happy after seeing it.
When the farmer and his wife woke up in the morning and saw the duck, they were even more surprised because the next day the duck laid a golden egg, seeing which their happiness knew no bounds.
Now the farmer and his wife were very happy because the golden duck gave them a golden egg every day and they eagerly waited for it.
His patience paid off as the duck started laying a golden egg every day. Overwhelmed with happiness and new wealth, Ghanshyam and his wife sold these precious eggs and soon both of them became rich and the envy of their village.
Then, following his wife’s advice, one day he cut the stomach of the duck with a sad heart, but both of them were very disappointed because they did not find a single golden egg in the duck’s stomach and the duck also died.
The farmer was very saddened by his misfortune. The farmer and his wife realize that their selfishness has cost them, Ghanshyam and his wife feel ashamed of their mistake.
From then on, he cherished what little he had left and vowed to never again let greed cloud his judgment.
Moral of the Story The Goose And The Golden Eggs
The story of The Goose and the Golden Eggs teaches us that we should not be too greedy. Being too greedy is a disease and greed causes so much harm to us and others that sometimes it becomes impossible to compensate.
This story teaches us another lesson that we should never kill any creature for our greed.
